OUR ROOTS THE CURATE STUDIO STORY

   Hi, Anita here.... A British Born Punjabi with a love for travel, fashion, design, music and a hot masala chaat!  

I have lived in the UK, Europe and Asia which has given me true exposure to culture and its diversity. I feel blessed with my patchwork family, a diverse tribe that span continents, traditions and cultures. These wonderful individuals have inspired my curiosity and thirst for life. 

I learnt to hustle in the 1980s with my father during his first business venture as a self employed milk man. We would supply products to some of the roughest areas in North London. These harsh realities taught me how to push, grind and overcome challenges, but most of all, it gave me inner strength and resiliance from an early age. The tenacity to get back up after the punches, rise and push forward, time after time.

Thankfully, we pivoted into food retail some years later. Stocktaking, replenishing the best sellers, going to the cash and carry, serving our customers was a welcomed change. This was my first experience of retailing and I loved it! 

As soon as I could legally work, I started at New Look, and was lucky to get an opportunity to do a placement in Weymouth. After this I knew I wanted to be a Fashion Buyer. My parents were not impressed, so I fled to Manchester to study Fashion Marketing regardless and self funded my education by working two jobs and graduated with top marks, just to prove a point.

The world was now my Oyster.  I manifested my dream of working on Oxford Street and I still thank the lovely Sam Burford for taking a chance on me as a fresh graduate and that’s where it all began. I literally transcended from milk round to fashion buyer, to flying business class and beyond. The rest as they say is history. 

My vision at Curate Studio is to build a thriving community that nurtures talent and encourages diversity. I hope to follow my purpose, do what I love, develop great sustainable product, work with creatives to innovate, spend time in the factories where I find true happiness and bring our craft to market.
